PARENTING SKILLS CLASSES / HAPPY AND WELL
We offer monthly parenting skills workshops specifically designed for the Asian community. These workshops aim to bridge the gap between traditional Asian parenting practices, which are often seen as more authoritative, and the expectations of a new cultural. By doing so, we help parents and caregivers adapt their approach to better support their children’s development and integration into the new society, while still holding on to their cultural values.

The Importance of learning new skills while raising children
A parenting skills group can help parents develop a variety of important abilities that enhance both their relationship with their children and their overall approach to parenting. Some key abilities that are typically cultivated in such groups include:
- Effective Communication
Parents learn how to communicate more clearly and empathetically with their children, fostering a positive, open environment for expressing feelings and needs. - Positive Discipline
Parents are guided in strategies for setting appropriate boundaries and expectations while using discipline that is both fair and consistent, avoiding punitive measures in favor of guidance and support. - Emotional Regulation
Parents develop skills to manage their own emotions, leading to more patient, calm, and responsive interactions with their children. - Problem-Solving and Conflict Resolution
Parents gain tools for resolving conflicts in constructive ways, both between themselves and their children, as well as among siblings or within the family unit. - Building Emotional Intelligence
Parents learn how to recognize, understand, and respond to their children’s emotional needs, promoting emotional health and well-being in the family. - Promoting Healthy Development
Parents are educated on stages of child development and how to nurture their children’s physical, emotional, and cognitive growth in age-appropriate ways. - Strengthening Family Bonds
Through shared experiences and learning, parents can strengthen their relationships with their children and create a supportive, nurturing family environment. - Self-Care for Parents
Parents learn the importance of caring for themselves, which in turn enables them to be more effective and present in their parenting role. - Building Consistency and Structure
Parents develop routines and structures that help create a stable environment for their children, supporting better behavior and emotional health. - Increasing Confidence
Parents gain confidence in their parenting abilities by learning new strategies and receiving support from peers and facilitators.
Overall, a parenting skills group aims to foster a more positive, effective, and understanding approach to parenting, benefiting both the parents and their children.
