YWCA Shows Support for Cities for CEDAW

ED Helen Kim represented the YWCA of Queens at Cities for CEDAW, part of NGO CSW/NY Beijing + 20 campaign and sponsored by the USNC-UN, to show support for NYC adopting the CEDAW platform. CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women) is the only comprehensive international treaty on women’s rights. The United States is the only major industrialized country who has not yet joined the other 188 counties who have already ratified CEDAW. Cities for CEDAW Campaign aims to “make the global local” by harnessing the power of cities to promote the adoption of CEDAW as a municipal ordinance in order to create a framework for improving the status of women and girls.
