YWCA of Queens

The 2011 New York Music Competition was a smashing success and the audience was dazzled by the musical talent of our community’s children and adolescents.  Below is the opening address from the ceremony.

Welcome to the 14th Annual New York Music Competition (NYMC), proudly presented by the Korea Daily and YWCA of Queens.

Children have a natural love of music. Music can play a critical role in a child’s development and the NYMC has been dedicated to provide a platform for youth to explore and demonstrate their musical talent since 1998.

The NYMC has grown significantly both in its size and reputation. 1,263 children, aged 5 to17, have participated in the NYMC for the past 14 years. Talent at each year’s competition has been impressive. We are delighted to host such an event that shines a spotlight on the exceptionally talented youth who will soon grace the great stages and concert halls of the world.

The Korea Daily and YWCA of Queens would like to thank all contributors and supporters who have made our beautiful tradition possible. We would like to also extend our deep gratitude to our exceptional young performers and their families for sharing love and appreciation of music with us.

It is our vision and hope that through your continued support, the NYMC will grow and continue to provide invaluable learning and performance experiences for youth in our community. Thank you for sharing our dream.
