New York Youth Works is a three week job training program offered by the YWCA of Queens that prepares students ages 16-24 to earn their National Work Readiness Credential. Upon completion of the program, students will work one-on-one with our career specialists to identify and secure a job. All students who complete the program and find employment will be given a $600.00 stipend! Click here for more information!

The YWCA of Queens hosted our annual New York Music Competition April 9th-April 12th 2012. Co-presented by the Korea Daily and sponsored by Korean Cultural Service NY and the Tiger Baron Foundation, the NYMC provides the opportunity for talented young musicians to compete in either the violin, cello, or piano division. It was very competitive this year and we had many participants from Julliard pre-college , Manhattan School of Music, and Mannes College Preparatory. Twenty-five first and second place winners have been selected and will participate in a concert and award ceremony at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on Thursday, May 3rd, 2012. Dental Visit at YWCA UPK!!

All UPK children were given an oral exam by a certified dentist on April 20, 2012. The children were so excited to receive a special gift: a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a sticker. Each parent received a letter explaining the health of their child’s teeth. The dentist was very impressed that not one child cried!! We are all so proud of them.

We are now registering children for Summer Day Camp! Give your child an academically enriching and recreational experience this summer with us at the YWCA of Queens. This year we are focusing on a literacy-based curriculum, following the New York State Core Curriculum Standards. GED Olympics & BBQ

Students from the adult and youth GED programs enjoyed a fun-filled review day last week. Students participated in a variety of academic games with an Olympic twist! Games included balloon popping for math problems, fly swatting vocab words, throwing bean bags for science, and balancing balls on spoons to answer social studies questions. YW-Access Recreational Enrichment

Students of YW-Access, a GED preparation program, enjoyed the spring air and sun on their recreational outing to the park. We are now accepted UPK applications at the YWCA of Queens for fall 2012! All children born in 2008 are eligible for this unique opportunity. We offer an excellent educational program filled with age-appropriate and academically rich lessons. We emphasize the needs and learning style of the whole child and fill each moment with experiences that will positively impact their future education. Most important, this is not babysitting or free play all day, but a highly developed program based on the New York State Core Curriculum. Come and visit us any time. New After School Program for Middle School Students!

The YWCA of Queens is starting a new afterschool program for middle school students grades 6-8! The program will provide students a safe space to enjoy a snack, engage in recreational activities, complete homework, and continue learning with academic enrichment. The program will be led by a NYS certified teacher with over ten years teaching expereince. Students will be provided one-on-one homework assistance to ensure their academic success now and in the future.
