COMPASS/Explore! Afterschool Program

The Compass/Explore! program is the YWCA of Queens’ free afterschool enrichment program for children ages 6-11. By focusing our instruction on collaborative, multi-part performance, our children are immersed in project-based learning. Through the various musical elements of our program including percussion, choral work, keyboards, music fun facts, rhythm and games, and technology in music, students investigate and work through a complex question, problem, or challenge through the multi-faceted lens of music.

Each activity will work together, joining our children’s musical abilities to create a collaborative performance which will be shared with the community, parents and YWCA members at the end of the semester. Compass/Explore! also includes time for homework help for students who might need additional assistance as well as light snacks and refreshments.

Compass/Explore! benefits parents by providing free, safe, and quality afterschool programming, and children by serving as an exciting opportunity to discover and develop their personal musical abilities, and receive expert homework help.

Compass/Explore! operates during the school year, Monday-Friday, 2:30-5:30pm
