The spirit of volunteerism is rich in history, alive in the community and strong at the YWCA.

The YWCA of Queens is proudly celebrating Women's History Month! In recognition of this significant occasion, we've invited our dedicated team members to express what this month means to them personally. By sharing their perspectives, our team aims to highlight the diverse experiences and stories that make this month so meaningful. This celebration is not just about recognizing the past but also about inspiring and empowering women today and in the future.
Happy Women's History month... This is Our HERstory. This year we are spreading awareness to our history by acknowledging a few women who shaped our long legacy. Let's take this month to appreciate the trailblazers who have paved the way and support the ongoing fight for women's rights worldwide. Happy Women's History Month!
We made traditional Korean rice cakes, tteok, shaping colorful dough with natural powders into beautiful rose designs. Filled with banana and red bean paste, each creation was made with care. More than cooking, it was a time of culture, creativity, and connection — and sharing our handmade treats made it even more special.

An interactive and informative Crime & Scam Prevention Workshop was held on February 6th with Officer John Vlaovich from the 109th Precinct in Flushing. Our Seniors from the Neighborhood NORC and NDA Senior Services Programs learned about phone, email, bank, dating site scams, pedestrian safety and home and car burglary. Helpful handouts were provided in three languages and a Home Security Assessment was offered to our clients. The well attended workshop was extremely helpful for our clients and we plan to do another session this year.
On Wednesday, February 18, over 35 seniors from the neighborhood NORC and NDA Senior Services programs gathered to celebrate Lunar New Year 2026. The room was filled with a joyful atmosphere of celebration, friendship and appreciation! Transcending differences of race and language, the vibrant group enjoyed traditional holiday foods, played interactive games, and engaged in heartfelt dialogue. The session was led by former teacher and NORC community member Norma Chin, enabling us to learn about the many interesting and thoroughly relatable traditions of the Lunar New Year for which we are grateful!
